Welcome to Marion Primary School

Marion Primary School is a KidsMatter school. We endeavor to develop confident, responsible, independent learners who contribute successfully to the future. We aim for personal excellence, continuous learning, and care and respect for each other and the environment. We have a commitment to improve teaching and learning in literacy, numeracy, assessment and planning and science. Our focus is building a positive school culture where staff, students and parents work together to achieve improved outcomes.

We aim to develop our students' resilience in a safe, supportive and respectful environment.

Student Voice is actively fostered through Student Representative Council (SRC) with students from all year levels participating. The SRC meets fortnightly to follow up issues raised through classroom meetings. Additional student representation occurs through Student Action Teams including Wellbeing, Grounds, Fundraising and Canteen. Students with staff support contribute to decisions made within the school and initiate projects that benefit the school and its community.

Each year our Senior Choir made up of years 5, 6 and 7 students enters into the Festival of Music. Music is valued within the school through class programs, Junior and Senior Choirs and students learning a range of string instruments such as violin, viola and cello. In 2017, Ukulele lessons will be taught to Year 6 and 7 students.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is utilised across the curriculum and all classrooms have interactive whiteboards and internet access.

Spanish is the language other than English and is taught from Reception to Year 7.

During lunchtimes there are a variety of activities offered by staff including Crafts and Student Action Teams supported by specialist teachers including digital technologies, fundraising, games, dance and gardening.

After-school sports are a focus supported by numbers of parent coaches and team managers. The range of sports offered includes cricket, football, netball and soccer. We also represent strongly in SAPSASA competitions in Athletics, Football and Netball.

Our main building was totally refurbished in 2010.  We work in a calm, bright and light environment with open classrooms, shared spaces, wet areas and toilets. Our extensive grounds and playing areas are continuously being developed to include nature playing spaces.

Before School

Students are not permitted to be on school grounds before 8.30am. A teacher will be on yard duty from 8.30am.

During School

Students may not leave the school grounds alone during school time or at lunch time unless a parent has given written permission or telephoned the school. If your child has an appointment during the school day, they need to be signed out and back in again at the front office.

After School

Parents are to meet their children in the yard or at a meeting point outside of the school building. Please do not wait for your children in the corridors as it creates too much congestion.

If due to unforeseen circumstances students have not been collected by 3.30pm they are required to go to the front office and parents will be contacted. If parents/carers are unable to collect their children in an agreed time the children will be booked into OSHC.

Head Lice

Head lice can be an ongoing problem that parents face. Check your child's hair regularly, and if necessary treat with a recommended head lice product. Keep your child home until the infestation has been eradicated, and together we can help to keep yours, and other families, free of lice. If there is an outbreak of head lice in your child's class you will be sent a letter and instructions to eradicate the head lice.

The actual size is about the size of a sesame seed.
