The past two weeks have been a busy and exciting time at Bendigo SDS, with several classes and PLCs heading out on camps and excursions.
These experiences are an important part of our curriculum, giving students the chance to build shared memories, explore new environments, and apply the skills they have been working on at school in meaningful, real-world contexts.
Rooms 21 and 23 enjoyed a fantastic day at the Werribee Zoo, where they had the opportunity to see a wide range of animals up close, sparking plenty of new vocabulary and conversations back in the classroom.
PLC 3 travelled to the TwistED Science Centre in Echuca, where hands-on learning helped to deepen students’ curiosity and understanding of the world around them.
Meanwhile, PLC 5 and 6 embarked on an exciting overnight camp at school, complete with a special excursion to the Little Ninja Warriors Stadium and Café in Epsom. For many students, this was their first experience staying overnight away from home, and it was wonderful to see them growing in confidence and independence.
These rich experiences are vital in supporting our students’ development, offering opportunities to practise social skills, expand language, and create joyful memories together. A big thank you to our staff for their planning and care in making these opportunities possible, and to our families for their support in ensuring students could participate.
🫷Stop Press: I am joined by senior student Georgian, who has co-written this reflection on the Werribee Zoo excursion:
“Our visit to the Werribee Zoo was great fun. The best bit was a bumpy and wild Safari ride where we had a close encounter with an ostrich. I also liked going to the Werribee RSL for lunch where we saw lots of WWII-related things and had huge, great meals for lunch.”
Thanks, Georgian, for your personal reflection!
