Registration of Interest for Reception Placement
To assist us to manage enrolment numbers, all parents / carers of prospective Reception students need to complete and lodge a Registration of Interest for Reception Placement. Forms should be lodged with the school generally by June 30 each year. Enrolment offers are completed early in term 3 with advice then sent to parents to finalise your child’s place.
If you miss the June 30 deadline this year, or you have any other questions, don’t worry. Simply contact the school office and we will gladly assist you with this process.
Starting school
South Australia has the same first day of school for all children which means that every child has four terms of Reception before they go on to the rest of their primary schooling. If your child turns five before May 1, they will start school on the first day of Term 1 in that year. If your child turns five on or after May 1, they will start school on the first day of Term 1 the following year.
Transition to school
Starting school is an important time for children and families. Children who make a positive start to school are more likely to:
• feel comfortable, relaxed and valued
• feel excited and motivated to learn
• have good relationships with others
• develop a sense of belonging within the school community
Our transition to school programs help children cope with the new challenges, support your child in developing their social, emotional and learning skills and contribute to a successful start to their schooling.
Orientation visits
We hold a series of transition sessions to familiarise children with our school context including playtimes, eating times and participating in specialist lessons. These are held in Term 4 for all children who have enrolled to start at Marion Primary School the following year.
