Australian Curriculum

The Australian Curriculum provides a cohesive and comprehensive framework that guides teaching and learning for all students from Foundation to Year 10 in Australian schools. It outlines the essential knowledge, skills, and capabilities that students are expected to develop, ensuring a consistent and high-quality educational experience nationwide. The curriculum incorporates diverse learning areas—including English, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities—while also fostering critical and creative thinking, intercultural understanding, and ethical behaviour. At Marion Primary School, we are committed to delivering the Australian Curriculum in engaging and inclusive ways, preparing our students for success in a dynamic and globalised world.

English:

At Marion Primary School, our English program is guided by the Australian Curriculum, which sets clear expectations for the development of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing skills across all year levels. For students in Reception to Year 2, we implement the Initialit program, a structured and evidence-based approach that lays strong foundations in phonics, reading, and early literacy skills. For students in Years 3 to 6, we use the Spelling Mastery program to systematically develop spelling knowledge and accuracy. These programs support our commitment to delivering a high-quality, consistent, and effective English curriculum, ensuring all students are equipped with essential literacy skills for success now and into the future.

Mathematics:

At Marion Primary School, our Mathematics curriculum is based on the South Australian Curriculum, aligned with the Australian Curriculum, to ensure all students develop strong numeracy skills and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. Our program is designed to build confidence and competence in key areas such as number, algebra, measurement, geometry, statistics, and probability. Through engaging, hands-on activities and problem-solving tasks, students are encouraged to think critically, apply mathematical reasoning, and make connections to real-life situations. We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student can achieve success and develop a positive attitude towards mathematics.
