Literacy Programs

Initialit R–2

InitiaLit is a whole-class literacy program designed specifically for students in Reception to Year 2. The program provides systematic and explicit instruction in foundational reading skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Through engaging, evidence-based lessons, InitiaLit supports young learners to develop strong literacy foundations, setting students up for ongoing success in their schooling. At Marion Primary School, all Reception to Year 2 students participate in daily InitiaLit lessons as part of our commitment to high-quality literacy instruction.

Spelling Mastery Years 3–6

Spelling Mastery is a research-based program used at Marion Primary School for students in Years 3 to 6. Spelling Mastery teaches spelling skills explicitly and systematically, using a combination of strategies including word analysis, phonological, visual, and morphemic approaches. The program is designed to build confidence and proficiency by ensuring students master the rules and patterns of English spelling. Students participate in regular Spelling Mastery lessons, supporting ongoing development of essential literacy skills and preparing them for greater success in their writing across all curriculum areas.
